How to Get Here

Your journey to Konda Maloba begins in Bali. From Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS), a short one hour flight east brings you to Tambolaka Airport (TMC) into a quieter, more untouched Indonesia. Our team will be there to meet you.

From Tambolaka, a scenic two-and-a-half-hour drive takes you through villages, open savannah, and the forests of Manupeu, gradually carrying you deeper into the landscapes of Sumba.

Several airlines operate the Bali–Tambolaka route, including Wings Air, Batik Air and Nam Air. We recommend booking early. Our team is happy to advise on schedules and connections.

Rates

All rates are quoted in USD and are subject to availability and seasonal adjustment.

Payments and invoices are processed in Indonesian Rupiah (IDR), using the prevailing exchange rate on the date of payment.

All rates include 21% government tax and service charge.

How many guests can each villa accommodate?

Each villa has one extra king size bed and accommodates a maximum of:

  • 2 adults and 1 child under 5 years old, in the existing room configuration; or
  • 2 adults and 2 children under 12 years old, with one extra bed.

When is the best time to visit?

Like much of Indonesia, Sumba has two seasons, and each one is beautiful in its own way. From around mid-March to October, the wind season brings dry, sunny days, cool evenings and gold savannah hills. From November to mid-March, the short monsoon season turns the island lush and green, with tropical showers, full waterfalls and calm, glassy mornings.

Is there anything I should know about sumba?

Some of the most memorable times to visit Sumba follow its cultural calendar. Life on the island is still deeply rooted in ancestral tradition, and Sumba was the last island in Indonesia where most of the population followed Marapu, the local belief in ancestral spirits. Oral histories that go back centuries are still preserved and recited today. If your dates fall in February or March, ask us about Pasola, a ritual mounted battle held across the island for centuries and well worth planning your trip around.

What about dietary requirements?

The kitchen prepares daily from the garden, the farm and the morning catch. Whether you eat vegetarian or vegan, have allergies or intolerances — including nuts or shellfish — observe a halal diet, or have any other dietary need, please let us know when you get in touch, and the more notice we have, the better we can prepare. Children’s meals can always be arranged.

Is there connectivity at the property?

Wi-Fi is available throughout the property. Whether you use it is yours to decide. There are no televisions in the villas. Konda Maloba is a place built around slowing down the swiftness with which we attempt to grasp slow-moving things. Mobile signal is limited in the surrounding area.

For anything urgent during your stay, our team is always on hand. The nearest medical facilities are in Waikabubak, approximately 1-2 hours from the property.

Most nationalities may enter Indonesia on a tourist visa on arrival. We recommend confirming your visa requirements before travel.
